The United manager has overseen a miserable off-season and, speaking after the game on Sunday, he welcomed the return of the Premier League.
Mourinho also hailed the performances of his young players, who have been called upon in the absence of World Cup stars such as Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard.
